This week we read several articles and watched several videos on digital storytelling. DS is one of my favorite topics and something that I have been doing with students for many years. However, until now I didn't truly think about the importance of it and how many elements go into the process. As with many things in the library science world, this is another concept that many people do daily and don't realize the effectiveness of. I'm so glad that this week I got to dive in and get a deeper understanding of the material. There were multiple resources this week, so I will be discussing just a few of them.  Let's start with the basics. What is digital storytelling? Why should we create digital stories? How can you use these elements? These are all questions I asked myself this week so I started my dive into my information with the video from U of G Library. It was the perfect amount of time and a great introduction to digital storytelling.  An Instrument for Assessing th...

Mrs. Readerpants Blog This week I read the Mrs. Readerpants Blog which can be found here . I found this blog by looking for library blogs specifically for high school librarians. Leigh Collazo has been both a head librarian and a secondary English teacher. After the pandemic, she left the profession to homeschool her children and run her blog full-time. She started the blog in 2011 as a way to review books, but she gradually switched to management tips for librarians and classroom teachers. She talks about how new librarians are often "on their own" and that she wants to be a part of the community that helps these new librarians.  I chose this blog because even though I work in a library with another librarian, I haven’t been given many responsibilities or even taught them so I want to learn as much as I can for when I am handed the reigns. All the resources for specifically new librarians are amazing and it’s comforting to know that there is support out there. I read several...

While working on the assignments in this class I began to think about how storytelling must be for students who have different abilities than the average student. I thought about this because as a child I was not a big reader and never truly enjoyed reading. I really enjoyed being read to by adults and I would even follow along in the books as they read, but when told to read on my own I always had an aversion to it. This went past elementary school and well into middle school. I actually read my first full book by myself in seventh grade, Stuart Little. My mom always noticed that while reading I would add words that weren’t written or miss words that were written on the pages. Because of this as I got older and started my teacher cadet classes I noticed when reading books or telling stories my flow was always interrupted because I wasn’t properly reading what was on the pages. It was like I was having to decipher what was written as I was reading it and have to say it aloud to a class...
